The Westlake Watershed District is happy to be able to supplement its funding with the help of various partners. We would like to thank the following:
The Manitoba Government provides 75% of Westlake Watershed's funding yearly.
In addition to other projects, the Rural Municipalities of Alonsa, Lakeshore, Mossey River and Westlake Gladstone each provide 25% of Westlake Watershed's yearly funding.
Westlake Watershed District is a member of the Association of Manitoba Municipality due to being partners with the 4 RM's in our District. RM of Alonsa, RM of Lakeshore, Municipality of Mossey River and Gladstone Westbourne, in Manitoba. As well as hold a partnership agreement with Municipal and Northern Relations, who oversee the Northern Affairs northern portion of Westlake Watershed District. We are also part of the Manitoba Association of Watersheds (MAW) which supports Manitoba’s 14 watershed districts in their efforts to protect Manitoba’s soil, water, habitat, and climate. MAW offers support in my many ways, including assisting with public policy issues, administering joint funding projects, sharing success stories, and more.
Manitoba’s Watershed Districts have access to new resources to partner with to get more done on the landscape. Watershed Districts are key delivery agents for the Conservation Trust created in 2018 and are currently the sole delivery agents of the Growing Outcomes in Watersheds (GROW) Program announced in 2019. As well as administers application process with Westlake Watershed District landowners in programming with Prairie Watershed Climate Program (PWCP)
The district has also partnered with Alonsa Community School, and grants from Prairie Mountain Health's Healthy Together Now and New Horizons for Seniors funding programs, WWD helped to complete a two tier project called A.A.C.R.E - Alonsa Agriculture Community Restorative Enterprise, a project which installed new green houses and raised garden beds in two locations within the community, as well as an accessible community park.
In a joint project with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Manitoba Fish and Wildlife Enhancement Fund, WWD has completed the Garrioch Creek Walleye Spawning Project, the creek is one of the most important infrastructure drains in the district.
Last but not least, Manitoba's Urban/Hometown Green Team Grant to employ local student's to maintain our ecotourism sites and Sam & Annie Zdans Memorial Park
